To Whom should we Recommend Wearing of Gems and Under What Conditions?
The gems are mainly given according to the Benefic Planets/Yogakarakas for each Ascendent/Lagna. The Benefic Planet/ Yogakaraka for Sagittarius/Dhanu Ascendent/Lagna will not be the same for Librs/Tula Ascendent/Lagna. So, it differs very much according to the Ascendent/Lagna. Along with the Ascendent/Lagna, we have to ascertain the Friendship and Enmity between Lord of the Ascendent/Lagna of the person and the gem’s lord. Planetary position also comes to the point while recommending any gem to a person. There are nine primary gems and many secondary gems in Hindu Astrology which are known as “NavRatna” or nine jewels. They are:-
a) Topaz (PaleYellow also known as Yellow Saphire) or Pukhraaj
b) Ruby
c) Red Coral (Moonga)
d) Pearl (Moti)
e) Diamond (Heera)
f) Emerald (Hara Panna)
g) Blue Sapphire (Neelam)
h) Hessonite (Gomedh)
i) Cat’s eye (Lahsaniya)
The rulers of these gems are:-Jupiter, Sun, Mars, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu respectively. However, there are many substitutes for these original gems, but the originals are always recommended as they have full potential to strengthen the planet for which it is recommended. There are certain rules which govern the procedures of usage of these Gems, i.e. on which finger to wear, on which day of the week, at what time of the day, what are the Worship/Pooja rituals to be followed, what are the propitiating Mantras for the Gems, and which Gem to be set in gold and which in Silver. Only the general conditions in short shall follow for each gem, and the suitability of each gem for each Ascendent/Lagna, Mantras etc.
1) TOPAZ (Pale Yellow) or Pukhraaj
Topaz or Pukhraj is given to pacify or reduce the malefic nature of Jupiter/Guru or to strengthen Jupiter/Guru. This gem is quite most expensive gem and given to those who are not getting married, or for education of students, or for Acquisition of Wealth or for Settlement of Property disputes etc. The general conditions which should be considered. are given
The general conditions for recommending Topaz: -
(I)For Pisces/Meen or Sagittarius/Dhanu Ascendent/Lagna.
(II)Jupiter/Guru being a Benefic/Kaarak is postioned in 6/8/12 houses from Ascendent/Lagna.
(III)Jupiter/Guru being a Benefic/Kaarak is postioned in Capricorn/Makar.
(IV)Jupiter/Guru being a Benefic/Kaarak is positioned in 6 & 8 houses from its own house and / or afflicted by Saturn/Shani.
(V)Jupiter being 2nd Lord in 9th place or being 4th Lord in 11th place or 7th lord in 2nd house or as 9th lord in 4th house or being 10th lord in 5th house,
(VI)Retrograde Jupiter/Guru who is Benefic/Kaarak in chart is placed in Gemini/Mithun, Cancer/Kark, Libra/Tula, Scorpio/Vrischik, Aquarius/Kumbh or Pisces/Meen (where it has no benefic strength).
These are the combinations for recommending Topaz or Pukhraaj. Now given below are the suitabilities of Topaz or Pukhraaj for each Ascendent/Lagna:-
1. Aries/Mesha –Topaz or Pukhraaj is an auspicious gem for ascendants of Aries, Jupiter being 9th &12th Lord. Moreover, Jupiter will lead the native to the top if he is in 4th from Lagna, if Topaz or Pukhraaj is worn during its favourable Dasha/Antardasha periods.
2. Taurus/Vrishabh–Jupiter/Guru is the lord of 8th &11th house. So it is not auspicious.
3. Gemini/Mithun–Jupiter suffers from Dvi-Kendradhipati Dosha(Lord of two Angles - Not a good combination). Jupiter in 5th house can confer great yoga if Pukhraj is used. Jupiter in 1/2/4/7/9/10 houses from Lagna with the use of Pukhraj promote professional life.
4. Cancer/Kark –Jupiter being the lord of Bhagya is auspicious and for people of this Lagna, Yellow Sapphire is highly recommended.
5. Leo/Simh–Use of Pukhraj during the Dasa of Jupiter if Jupiter is afflicted or ill-disposed.
6. Virgo/Kanya –Jupiter suffers from Kendradhipati Dosha. Jupiter’s placement in star of Venus makes a yogakarak. If Jupiter in 1/2/4/5/7/11 houses from Lagna, one may wear a Pukhraj.
7. Libra/Tula –Not auspicious, but if Jupiter posted in Cancer or own house & during the Mahadasa of Jupiter.
8. Scorpio/Vrischik –It’s Auspicious. Jupiter’s placement in Leo or Cancer is good.
9. Sagittarius/Dhanu –Jupiter becomes the Lagna Lord and 4th Lord. Placement in the star of Sun, Mercury or Jupiter makes a yogakarak.
10. Capricorn/Makar -Inauspicious.
11. Aquarius/Kumbh–With Caution.
12. Pisces/Meen–Benefic in the star of Moon. It is always for this Ascendant.

ReplyDeletethanks for this useful information
sir ,plz tell me about how to check the genuineness of topaz. and what we call Amethyst in Hindi as?
ReplyDeleteDear Vybhav
ReplyDeleteThe ingenuity of a Gem can be checked in a Gem Testing lab. Further we should see that it has least possible defects like bubbles, dark spots, lines etc. But definitely it cannot look like glass i.e. very clear, it should have some slight amount of haziness.
Amethyst is called "Soonehlaa" in Hindi
thank u for ur valuable suggestions n precious time.
ReplyDeletecan u tell me about "how to decide the ratti/carat to wear", n plz also tell how much the ratti to wear, of pukhraj, for 72 kg adult.
1 Carat per 10 Kg body weight but, beyond 5-5&1/2 carats the Gem becomes too big for it to be worn on a hand, ofcourse on some big sized hands Gems upto 6 carats also look good. In case the size is too big for a ring then it should be worn as a Pendant, but no holes should be made in it for it to be worn as a pendant. The cost factor also comes in, as the same carat Gem can have vastly varying costs, depending on its Purity.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless
is 1 carat = 1.667 ratti?
ReplyDeleteis there any side effect of this stone. sm1 recommended me 2 wear between 6-7 ratti.
